I am currently working on the following research projects:

  • Consent, Privacy, and “Revenge Porn” Among Gay Men

    • My dissertation is focused on the construction and enforcement of norms of consent among gay male sexual communities. Through a qualitative inquiry into online intimate practices, I hope to contribute to ongoing scholarly conversations around the necessarily nuanced definition of consent and the blurry boundaries of online privacy. Additionally, amidst an evolving regulatory landscape, I hope to further challenge the utility of “revenge porn” as terminology and offer insights into how developments in AI are shaping our understandings of ownership over our bodies, and visual or pornographic depictions thereof.

  • Queerness and Inclusive Communities in World of Warcraft

    • This project investigates new, virtual conceptualizations of safe and inclusive spaces by examining guilds in the online video game World of Warcraft. I interviewed guild leaders and members to understand how and why they sought out inclusive spaces, the challenges they faced in building and governing those spaces, and the resistive implications of their continued existence and persistence. This project offers contributions to the scholarly literature on online communities and safe spaces, especially among those holding marginalized identities seeking to claim space in digital infrastrucutres not built to accommodate them.
